Introduction to Philosophy for Children (P4C) - an approach to teaching & learning
Philosophy for Children ('P4C') can be used with any age, subject and ability. It aims to develop thinking, communication, and social skills in or out of the classroom; in particular, it allows learners to ask their own questions, and reignite their curiosity. Practised for 35 years, and now in 60 countries, research demonstrates that it can have a dramatic influence on academic achievement, behaviour, motivation, and emotional literacy. In short, it helps to turn the dry raisin of the curriculcum back into the juicy grape that it should be for both teacher and learner. For more information click on www.thinkingeducation.co.uk, and on www.sapere.org.uk. As a teacher, former Chair of the UK charity supporting P4C ('SAPERE'), and education trainer, I can highly recommend this to anyone involved in 'thinking education'; education that takes wisdom as it's key aim, not just 'being clever'. Give it go! This podcast will provide a simple introduction to it and the training on offer if it appeals to you.
